The Patagonia area has over 20 wineries, but most are located in Sonoita. This leaves Queen of Cups as the only winery in the town of Patagonia.

Now, that fact alone is not enough to make it a special place. But it is, and more. This may be the only winery in The United States that gets grapes from Sonora, Mexico to produce wine in the US. But that's still not enough to make it a special place.

Let's start from the beginning, with a statement from Queen of Cups:

We’re a winery that focuses on low-intervention wines from local grapes located both in Arizona and Sonora. With an emphasis on a sense of place, Queen of Cups hopes to represent the rugged magic of the deserts of Arizona & Northern Mexico by creating wines that are equally elegant and succulent. These wines upon first taste are a little more subtle, but when you start to pay attention are so beautiful you can’t believe you never noticed it before. Similar to the grasslands flecked with pronghorn. Or the datura flower at dawn.

You get a natural artisanal wine that not only supports the region, but is also unique and delicious. On top of that, you may get to try grape varieties you've never heard of such as Picpoul Blanc and Touriga Nacional

The best strategy for a visit is to start with a wine tasting, and then order your favorite(s). The trick with a small scale winery is that most of their wines have a short run, and then are often back 8 months later.

Currently, my favorite wines are their Tempranillo and Picpoul Blanc. However my all time favorite wine from them was a white wine blend called Some of us. Rumors are it'll be back in the Fall of `25.
